They say hind sight is 2020. And that has certainly been true this year! We have seen challenges, tragedy, and miracles in the past twelve months. We have seen agencies find new ways to serve even while they were shut down. We have seen fundraisers canceled and donors engage in new ways. And we have seen an almost 100% increase in the number of organizations joining our Huntsville CharityTracker network. Together we have used CharityTracker to serve almost 40,000 individuals and provided over $4.7 million in service. One of our favorite stories from this year occurred in May when Crestwood Medical Center posted a request on CharityTracker for IPads that could be used by patients in end of life situations to communicate with their loved ones. Adtran and InsideOut Ministries quickly responded and the need was met. Other needs for baby supplies, furniture, medical supplies, and other assistance were met over and over again. We also found new ways to stay connected. We held our regular monthly meetings in person, in Zoom, in person again, and then back to Zoom. We covered everything from homelessness, to transportation, to fundraising and ended the year by talking about the importance of self care. We also added weekly nonprofit Town Halls to our schedule from March to May during the COVID shutdown. Experts covered topics such as small business survival, employee furloughs, and SBA COVID grants. If we can accomplish all this in the middle of a global pandemic, think what we can do once we have a vaccine and life gets back to a new normal. Albert Einstein said "There are two ways to live your life. One way is to live as though nothing is a miracle. The other way is to live as though everything is a miracle." At ELM, we believe in miracles--big ones and little ones. We are grateful to everyone who was part of our miracles this year--our sponsors, our community partners, and our all those who have reached out to connect and collaborate to meet community needs. We can't wait to see what's possible in 2021. Happy New Year friends!
