Every day, nonprofit organizations across North Alabama have the opportunity to change lives. But without meaningful data, how do we know the true impact of our charitable giving?

At The ELM Foundation, our Pathway to Sustainability program helps nonprofit organizations build stronger, more sustainable operations through exceptional case management, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making. The key tool supporting this work is Charity Tracker, which enables agencies to document services, coordinate care, and demonstrate measurable outcomes to donors, grant makers, and community partners.

The Catholic Center of Concern in Huntsville is a wonderful example of how data can tell the story of generosity in action. This agency was a member of the 2024 Pathway to Sustainability cohort, where they gained insight into utilizing Charity Tracker, effective case management, and collaboration with other nonprofits in our community.

Thanks to the generous donations from the community and the hard work of volunteers, the organization provided the following assistance to families throughout its nine-county North Alabama service area between January 1 and July 31, 2026:

• Provided $264,412.72 in total assistance

• Served 1,010 households

• Reached 2,746 individuals within assisted households

• Completed 2,049 assistance records across 1,043 cases

The total value of assistance included:

• $155,792.54 in clothing

• $73,226.04 in financial assistance

• $33,099.14 in diapers, formula, and newborn packages

• $2,250.00 in holiday food boxes

• $45.00 in school supplies and books

Among the individuals living in assisted households were 1,284 children, 1,218 adults, and 220 seniors.

Each of these numbers represents individuals and families facing difficult circumstances, as well as a community choosing to help. We are grateful to the Catholic Center of Concern for its faithful service and commitment to excellence!

Why This Matters

Data does more than count services—it demonstrates stewardship. When nonprofit organizations accurately document their work, they can better understand community needs, improve coordination with partner agencies, strengthen grant applications, and provide transparent reporting to donors. Most importantly, they can ensure that limited resources are directed where they will have the greatest impact.

This is exactly what the Pathway to Sustainability program is designed to accomplish. The ELM Foundation believes that sustainable communities are built through collaboration, accountability, and accurate charity. By helping nonprofit organizations use tools like Charity Tracker, we strengthen agencies across North Alabama to serve more people more efficiently with measurable impact.
